Human Life Centre, Bhubaneswar

Human Life Centre is a much sought after institution. The motto of HLC is to “promote personal, interpersonal and community growth”. HLC, a diocesan venture began in 1982 and was run by the priests of Sacred Heart Congregation. In 1986, the Jesuits were asked to take it up. Non-formal education, known as Slum Schools/Basti Schools, is a part of HLC activity. It provides classes in Spoken English, Personality Development, Computer Applications and more.

JYOTI has been vibrant in the Steel City of Jamshedpur right from its inception. There are 22 Schools at present which have enrolled in JYOTI.   About 2000 youths studying in classes 9, 10, 11 & 12 enrol for a year annually.  JYOTI used to spearhead conducting as many as 11 programs annually. At present it organises four programs annually. Apart from these common programs, each Unit School carries out variety of social activities according to its own capacity.  

JYOTI Basket Tournament is one of the premiere tournaments in the city of Jamshedpur. This tournament is held annually in which more 30 teams participate. The 36th Inter-School Basketball Tournament was held 21st to 25th November 2019 at St. Mary’s Junior School Courts. It is a prestigious tournament which aims not only to give a platform but prepares sportspersons who showcase brilliant sportsmanship qualify themselves for State level recruitments.

 JYOTI organises Volleyball Tournament annually in which more than 30 teams participate from Unit Schools in the city. Volleyball Tournament is also one of the premier tournaments in the city of Jamshedpur. JYOTI creates excellent platform for the youths to showcase their talents in volleyball. JYOTI has completed 25 years in conducting this tournament annually.

With an aim to equip the youths with social outlook JYOTI organises Motivational Workshops on different socially relevant topics. Last year a total of 19 schools participated in the motivational talk given by noted social worker Mr. Ajeet Singh and Dr. Indrajit Mahatha, IPS on the topic “Dare to be Agents of Compassion”.

One of most sought-after events of JYOTI is RHAPSODY which is the mega annual events. It is a youth festival that conducts about 20 colourful events for the youths to showcase their talents in painting, debate, dance, music, quiz, ramp walk, etc.
